OVERVIEW

We will travel from Ulaanbaatar to Bayan-Olgii by bus. The group tour will be eight days trip, meeting in Ulaanbaatar and traveling across Mongolia to witness the beautiful and varied landscapes until arriving in Bayan-Olgii.

After leaving Ulaanbaatar, a group will be going through Mongolia, making stops to eat & drink. This is public transport. And for those who seek comfort and luxury, this is not recommended. It is based on the true experience of local transportation. After around 26 hours of drive, the bus will make it to Bayan-Olgii, stopping at a guest house for a nice meal and a hot shower.

After arriving you and your group will travel to eagle hunter’s families. From today you will have a local support team consisting of a driver and expedition cook. These two days at the eagle hunter’s family, it doesn’t include an English-speaking tour guide but, during the festival and other days, our English-speaking tour guides will take care of you!

The golden eagle festival is one of the biggest events in western Mongolia, and with your early booking, we can arrange a smooth and ideal tour. So, the maximum group size will be 6 persons that visit the eagle hunter family. Here the group will be experiencing and exploring the nomadic lifestyle of the eagle hunters and see firsthand the truly astounding lives they live. The eagle hunter will show off firsthand how he not only trains but works with his eagle companion.

After the two days, the group will return to Olgii and head off to the Eagle Festival to be a part of the grand celebration. Here you will not only be witnessing the competitions and games but getting to be around Kazakh Eagle Hunters and other visitors who have experienced the same culture as you. After the two days of festivities, it will be time to travel back to Ulaanbaatar.

Why take this option? This option not only is more price effective than with a bigger tour company but also gives the chance to arrive by bus when all plane tickets are sold out. Many people every year are unable to visit during this time when all the tickets are sold out, or all the hotels have been booked, but with this, all accommodations and travel are already taken care of. Food and tax are included, and the team will make sure everything we can do is done. Although not as fast as flying, the buses are equally if not more comfortable and provide the option of true experience in natural Mongolia.

ITINERARY

Sept 27 / Day 1: Meet in Ulaanbaatar

Welcome to Mongolia. It is important that you let us know your location in advance so that we could pick you up from your hotel. We need to move early morning to skip the traffic. Once everyone meets at the checkpoint you will be transferred to our bus and get ready for the journey. It is a modern Korean bus with comfortable sits. The bus will make regular breaks on the way for the eat & drink. If you have any questions the English-speaking guide will serve you during the trip. Please make yourself comfortable and enjoy the endless steppe of Mongolia!

Sep 28 / Day 2: Travelling

Over 95 % of the road is asphalt. During the travel, you can enjoy 6 provinces’ land and cross through 10 villages. After driving for over 26 hours, arrive in Bayan-Olgii Province.  A warm welcome from your local support team. Hot shower and delicious dinner is ready!!! Enjoy your traditional accommodation, it is the traditional Mongolian yurts and it is absolutely the same that millions of Mongolian families live. Every yurt would have 3-4 beds.

Sep 29 / Day 3: Drive to Eagle Hunter’s family

Explore more about nomadic eagle hunters. To make your tour more comfortable, we separate each of you into groups where the group size will not be more than 6 people. Each group will be taken care with their local driver, guide, and cook. And of course, each group will drive not to the same place but to the different villages all over the province. Enjoy the hospitality of nomadic people and feel free to photo-shooting and film the eagle hunter and his family.  There is always something to experience from a nomadic way of living.

Sep 30/ Day 5: Be a part of real hunting

Today our eagle hunter will demonstrate how he trains his eagle. You have an opportunity to filming and photo-shooting. Also, you can have your memorable picture with an eagle that landed on your arms. After having lunch, drive back to Olgii town. For dinner enjoy our traditional meal.

Oct 1-2 / Day 6-7: Attend to Annual Golden Eagle Festival 2023

Our Discover Altai team will set our personal kitchen tent where we all will have lunch and  just for take a rest. You always welcome to have a hot tea or coffee during the festival. Also, our team will arrange a photo-shooting time specially for our group. We will invite over 5 eagle hunters and you have an opportunity to photo-shoot with group of eagle hunters. During the Festival you will be taken care by our English speaking tour guides. We will follow all “Festival” programs and will not miss any activities. If you have any special wishes during the trip we are more than happy to guide you. There will be extra activities like ride a horse or camel, try to put on the traditional eagle hunter’s custom and more. And you can attend to all of these activities.

Oct 3 / Day 8: Drive back to Ulaanbaatar.

Today you will drive back to the capital. We are very happy to have you and hope you are enjoying our trip. The main reason why we create this trip was, it is the best way to enjoy all the goods of “Golden Eagle Festival” with minimum funds. To be honest, the only difference between this trip with other “Festival” tours is the transportation from Ulaanbaatar to Olgii by bus. In other words, it is absolutely the same highlights and activities if not even more enjoyable. We created this adventure trip for those who like real expeditions and what makes the difference between tourists and travelers.

Oct 4 / Day 9: Arrive in Ulaanbaatar.

We are equipped with sleeping bags and mattresses. During the tour, you will stay in the nomadic family’s house and tourist camp at Olgii.

Weather

The weather in this area changes really fast. In the day time, it can be sunny and warm, but when the sunsets it gets cold. We recommend you pack more extra clothes and to be ready for all the conditions of the weather.
