Every year, many people are unable to attend during this time when all the tickets are sold out or all the hotels are booked. So we created the “Affordable Golden Eagle Festival Tour” to give you an all-inclusive package tour where everything is taken care of in advance.

The group tour will be a seven-day trip, starting with a meeting in Ulaanbaatar and driving across Mongolia by public bus to experience the beautiful and varied landscapes. Along the way, we will stop to eat & drink, stretch our legs. It is 1650 kilometers, and it takes about 25 hours to drive. Upon arrival in Bayan-Olgii province, we will be welcomed to our guesthouse with a nice welcome dinner and a hot shower.
The road is 100% paved and crosses 5 different provinces!
The Golden Eagle Festival is one of the biggest events in Mongolia! And for over 100 eagle hunters have come to compete in the annual eagle festival, and you can enjoy many traditional horse games. At the Eagle Festival place, we set up our kitchen tent where you can have your lunch and any time you want, and ask for hot water or coffee!
During the trip, you will have the opportunity to learn about the traditions and culture of the nomadic eagle hunters and see firsthand the truly amazing life they lead. The eagle hunters will show you how they train their eagles, and you will have the chance to take an unforgettable photo with an eagle that has landed on your arms. You can also see how they milk the yak, how they make a dairy product, how they herd their animals, and many other traditions they practice. The nomadic Kazakh families are very hospitable, and you are welcome to take photos and videos. A small gift for the family would be great, such as chocolate or toys for the children.

Enjoy a great horseback ride with Eagle Hunter and head to the top of the hill to take in the stunning surroundings.
The weather in October is quite cold, so please be prepared for cold and windy conditions.
During the trip, you will experience a traditional Kazakh yurt with 4 beds and be traditionally decorated. You have a heating in the middle, and you can experience the real taste of nomadic people.
The best of our expedition chefs take care of your meals, and you can enjoy delicious meals three times a day. The menu includes traditional and international dishes. If you prefer a vegetarian meal, that is absolutely fine, and we are happy to provide vegetarian and halal meals.
Fresh bottled water and snacks are also included in the price of the tour and are available at any time.

ITINERARY

1st October/ Day 1: Meet in Ulaanbaatar

We ask everyone to arrive at the new bus station “Dragon” at 7:00 AM. There is usually a lot of traffic in Ulaanbaatar. Therefore, let’s try to meet up before the traffic. We will create a WhatsApp group chat and keep everyone posted. Meet your tour leader and sit on the public bus and head west. Here we go! Enjoy the endless Mongolian steppe.

2nd October / Day 2: Arrive in Olgii

Welcome to the heart of the Altai! Our local team will meet you on your arrival at the local bus station, and you will be transferred to the tourist camp. Enjoy a hot shower and a traditional meal! In the evening can enjoy a short walk around the town and a relaxing day. You will stay in a traditional 4-bed yurt. If you prefer private accommodation, please let us know in advance.

3rd-4th October/ Day 3-4: Attend Golden Eagle Festival 2026

Our Discover Altai team will set up our personal kitchen tent, where we will all have lunch and just rest. You are always welcome to have a hot tea or coffee during the festival. During the festival, you will be taken care of by our English-speaking tour guides. We will follow all the “Festival” programs and will not miss any activities. If you have any special requests during the trip, we will be more than happy to accommodate you. There will be extra activities such as horseback riding, camel riding, trying on the traditional eagle hunter costume, and more. You can participate in all these activities.

5th October/ Day 5: Meet the Eagle Hunter family

Eagle hunting is a thousand-year-old culture passed down from father to son. Today, we travel to a remote area where you will meet a nomadic eagle-hunting family. Learn more about their traditions and culture. Mongolia is the only country where horses outnumber people. Today, you have the opportunity to ride a horse and be a part of the nomadic life. Mongolian horses are smaller than the rest of the world. If you don’t have any experience with horse riding, that’s OK, the horsemen will teach you and lead your horse. Safety is first, and our guys give you some instructions and lessons.

6th October / Day 6: Drive back to Ulaanbaatar.

Today you will drive back to the capital. This time we will have fewer stops than the previous ride. But of course, we will stop for lunch, dinner, and just stretch our legs. Toyota Alphard is the best car for a long drive. Have a good trip!

7th October / Day 7: Arrive in Ulaanbaatar.

Welcome back to Ulaanbaatar. After a long drive, you will be dropped back at the Dragon Bus Station. Our service ends here. We thank you and wish you all the best!

During the trip, you will be supported by the local team consisting of an experienced driver and expedition cook. The Discover Altai team has representatives in all positions of the tour.

Accommodation

We are equipped with sleeping bags and mattresses. During the tour, you will stay in the nomadic family’s house and tourist camp at Olgii.

What to bring

Backpack, headlight, warm clothes, hat and gloves, waterproof jacket and pants, towel, personal medicine, cream, and power bank.

Weather

The weather in this area changes really fast. In the daytime, it can be sunny and warm, but when the sun sets, it gets cold. We recommend you pack more clothes and be ready for all the conditions of weather.
