Car Rental in Mongolia — 4×4 Self-Drive from Ölgii
“Ride with confidence, explore with freedom.”
We stand for quality, and we are proud of it.
Come and enjoy self-driving in the endless Mongolian steppe and Mountainous landscapes. We offer you a car rental service where you can choose a reliable car and create your own trip.
Here in Mongolia, only between some of the villages and cities there is an asphalt road, and the rest of the land, where the most beautiful attractions are located, is off-road.
That is why we offer you only proven off-road vehicles such as Toyota Land Cruiser, Lexus 470 and Russian UAZ.

We are located in western Mongolia, and the pickup point starts from Ulgii. Once you get the car, you can go anywhere and return to Olgii. And only in some special cases, the pick-up or drop-off location can be changed to Ulaanbaatar, for example, when renting more than two weeks and non-touristic period of the year.
Western Mongolia includes five provinces. Here you can visit magnificent sights such as
- Kharhiraa Turgen Mountains,
- Sutai Khairkhan,
- Tsambagarav Mountain,
- Ulaagchin Khar Lake,
- Uvs Lake,
- Khar-Us Lake,
- Khoton and Khurgan Lakes ,
- Altai Tavan Bogd Mountains.

The road is mountainous and finding the right way to your destination is not so easy due to a large number of roads. You can drive about 150 km a day and it will take you 6-7 hours.
It is not recommended to drive at night. Losing the road is common, and don’t worry, it happens quite often. And of course, you’re better off having a standalone mapping app like Maps.me or BigG.
It is perfectly normal to stop a car on the road and ask for directions. Mongolians are very friendly and always happy to help. This includes when you are about to cross the river and the old bridge, please double-check to be able to cross safely to the other side.

Prefer the whole trip organised?
Renting the vehicle is one way to see the Altai. If you would rather not navigate, plan fuel stops and find the river crossings yourself, our Mongolia Self-Drive Tour covers 2,500 km over 14 days from the Gobi to the Altai with the route, logistics and support arranged. You can also see every trip we run on the tours page, or read our guide to travelling safely in Mongolia.
Car rental in Mongolia: frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to rent a car in Mongolia?
Our 4×4 vehicles are $110 to $130 per day depending on the model. A Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 95 is $110 per day, the Land Cruiser 80, Lexus 450 and Russian UAZ 452 are $120, and the Land Cruiser 100 and Lexus 470 are $130. We also hold a $500 deposit and one passport for the duration of the rental, both returned when you bring the vehicle back.
What vehicles can I rent in western Mongolia?
Six vehicles, all 4WD with high ground clearance: Toyota Land Cruiser 80 (4.4 diesel), Land Cruiser 100 (4.7 petrol), Lexus 450 and Lexus 470 (4.7 petrol), Land Cruiser Prado 95 (3.4 petrol) and the Russian UAZ 452. All seat five and are automatic except the UAZ, which seats eight, is manual and has no air conditioning.
Do I really need a 4×4 in Mongolia?
Yes. Asphalt exists only between some towns and cities. Everything else, including almost every place worth visiting in western Mongolia, is reached on dirt tracks, mountain passes and river crossings. That is why we rent only proven off-road vehicles with high clearance.
Where do I pick up the car?
Pickup and drop-off are in Ölgii, in western Mongolia, where we are based. You can drive anywhere from there and return to Ölgii. Ulaanbaatar pickup is possible only in special cases, such as rentals longer than two weeks or outside the main tourist season.
How far can I drive in one day?
Plan on about 150 km per day, which takes six to seven hours on these roads. Do not drive at night: livestock on the tracks and unlit vehicles make it genuinely dangerous.
Is it safe to drive yourself in western Mongolia?
With preparation, yes. Carry an offline mapping app such as Maps.me because there is no mobile coverage between settlements. Losing the track is normal, and stopping to ask directions is completely normal too. Always check river crossings and old bridges on foot before driving across them.
